Jesse Powell is a Grammy-nominated R&B singer-songwriter, best known for his hit record “You,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The track appeared on Powell’s first two albums, Jesse Powell and Bout It, to date he has released four albums.
We love musical families, so we must note that he is also the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina & Tamara (featured on “My Love Is The Shhh” by Something For The People). Powell has an incredible four octave vocal range.
“You” was sure to be on every R&B playlist from the ’90s even to present day. What a timeless record! Powell uses his vocal prowess and range to convey a story of love and wanting no one else but “You.” He uses imagery to paint a picture of his significant other as he expresses loving everything about her: the way she talks, walks, says his name, the way she moves, and more. Definitely a classic. Whatever happened to him?
